🔥 CRAZY AF: What To Do When You Don't Feel Like Training 🎅(Santa Claus Rule - A Mental Hack For Athletes)
For The Crazy Core
I CANNOT believe that November was my last post.
I'll spare the whole “I’m back” rant.
But I actually have been writing this entire time.
I haven’t posted them WHY?
Well #1 - I launched
for other sports builders with my guy Jake.#2 - I’ve been gearing up for the launch of a Youtube so I can add videos and visuals to these concepts. I’m not gonna beg for subscribers, but go follow the page (only if it brings you value)
#3 - I’ve been busy on Instagram trying to build the “CRAZY” community. (we can get into what “Crazy” really means on another post…..)
But for now… let’s get into it!
Watch this video for the “FULL” experience. 👇
I think it really makes it feel like it’s a conversation happening between us.
(even tho I am just talking to a camera, alone in a room)
until these convos can be had in an event… I am going to keep making these videos so I can get this “crazy” community built.
TRANSCRIPT of video BELOW:
What do you do when you don’t feel like training?
Cause everyone from youth to pro has days and moments where they don’t feel like:
Picking up the ball
Going for the run
Studying film or training their brain.
BUT no one talks about HOW they get through those days.
So that’s what we’ll talk about today.
So my entire life, I would just like make up random games to almost trick myself to making the “right choice”
Meaning, in every decision that you make you have a chance to vote for who you want to be.
So if you want to be a champion…
You have to do the things that a champion would do.
You have to live like a champion.
Actions are the support beams of your dreams
It’s super simple to understand, but very HARD to practice.
In college - You're training at home for the summer and You got this take home packet, there's a whole strength conditioning program to that packet.
The runs in the packet were so difficult.
JMU was known for being a team that like lifting really heavy and you ran really fast so that was the standard, right?
The runs were difficult themselves, but also because in every run that you do..
#1 - You're doing dead smack in the middle of a heatwave
#2 - You’re doing it by yourself.
You know what level of discipline and commitment it takes to follow through on that packet?
Especially when you don't have any accountability and no one watching
Because the things that are going through your head are the fact that it's so easy to cheat yourself out of this process. Like you're thinking…
“Okay, well, no one's here.”
“And oh, I could skip today “
“No one's really watching.”
Those thoughts all run through your head, and you're not human if they don't.
What separates the good players from the great players is how they talk to themselves when they have those thoughts.
It’s not about listening to your thoughts. It's about talking to those thoughts.
I made up for these types of moments I called
🎅The Santa Claus rule. 🎅
So I built this concept in my head called “the grind”
Really - I made it into a person but the concept was really simple.
The grind is always watching.
It knows when you go to sleep it knows when you go to bed.
It knows when you eat the apple instead of the cupcake.
When you read the book instead of doom scroll.
When you load your skill vs just do what everyone else does ( train for shots)
And the grind always knew:
It knew when you didn't touch the line or run. “Hey, that wasn't a full rep got to do it again.”
It knew if you didn't get all your sets in. “Hey, you only did 2 sets cause that’s all you had time for but you better get the 3rd in after work”
It knew if you didn't take your warm up seriously. I actually got alot of sh*t for my warm up in college but that rant is covered in the video.
Anyway, you get the point that there was no cheating the grind.
Now someone might hear this and think “That sounds so draining.”
But the grind is actually like a friend. (bare with me I know I sound delusional)
If there was an angel and devil on your shoulder, the grind is the angel saying “You know what you need to do because you know what you want. So just do it.”
It pushes you toward Arete (getting the most from your potential)
It watches your inputs, but also gives you outputs (that don’t directly translate to the field)…
When you're on this journey of mastery in any skill, whether you're an athlete, an artist, or you know someone in business (which I consider art)
The process is to build (toward something) and to be built at the same time.
Who you become is a byproduct of someone going after something.
The grind molds you into the person that you need to be in order to do the things that you want to do.
Lessons need to be learned, discipline developed.
You kind of just got to be crazy like that.
(If you really want to get the most from your experiences that you're putting so much of yourself into)
The voice in your head has to be THAT strong.
If you have crazy dreams you better have a crazy work ethic.
Don't expect to be the best if you aren't extreme.
If you weren't crazy. Don't expect extreme results without extreme actions.
So - the next time that you don't feel like doing something that you know you need to do on the route to where you want to go…Think of the grind.
The grinds is watching. It knows if you're going to skip a rep. It knows if you're cutting corners both literally and figuratively.
Is the thing you are about to do going to make a vote for who you want to become?
Go crazy,
Daria
